This Week’s Idea:

Strong foundations are everything

This week, I want to focus on something often overlooked: the base of our building. We all have different ambitions, goals, and areas of focus, and the blueprint for our building looks different for each of us. But every strong structure requires a solid base.

Often, we complicate the methods for reaching higher floors or building something grand while neglecting the foundation. Maintaining a strong base means defining it clearly and making it a daily priority. Focusing on your base is a daily decision—one that many of us ignore. And when life’s adversity comes, the structure of the building is at risk.

So, what does building your base look like? It requires a few things:

1. Know what makes you good. What do you do well? Simplify it to its core.

2. Know what makes you not good. Sometimes being good is simply avoiding what causes failure.

3. Simplify it. Defining what makes you good isn’t enough—you need a version that’s repeatable and easy to act on consistently.

4. Prioritize it. Remind yourself daily. Many athletes use creative methods to keep their focus on what drives success.

No matter how far along you are, or if you’re just starting, remember: without a base, you won’t get very far. How will you build your base today?

Until next week,

Austin
